Web design budget assessmentAfter the targets have been identified, what security will be required, and what the main function of the website will be, a budget needs to be established. Building a website is similar to building a house. How many sq ft? How many floors? How many bedrooms and baths?. A 3500 square foot custom built home with granite countertops, marble baths and hardwood floors requires a budget far greater than a 1000 square foot modular home with formica countertops and sheet vinyl and carpet floors. Both are perfectly liveable, but before deciding on which option to embark on, common sense dictates that a realistic budget be established to complete the construction, before it begins. The same common sense assessment has to be made about a website, before a single line of code is written. Does the site need to be custom written, or can existing modular applications be used? How many types of pages will be needed to effectively communicate your message? Will you need administrative panels to manage content? Will greater security be necessary because personal or financial information will be collected? Will you be able to manage your website yourself or will you need a webmaster to keep abreast of what is occuring with your website? A realistic budget will help you to define what is most important, and then, to be able to make it happen. |
